Green Condos Help Revive Stark Street Neighborhood

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Hasson Company teams up with designer and developer Sum Design Studio to offer sustainable living in a popular neighborhood in Southeast Portland. With the recent transformation of the SE 45th Street and Stark area into a thriving community, area residents are starting to see similarities to the established neighborhoods in and around Hawthorne, Belmont and Laurelhurst. A surge of new restaurants and shops are opening, and the newly constructed SUM-Thing New Condominiums add an entirely new dimension to the neighborhood.

“The SUM-Thing New Condominiums are perfect for young professionals, small families or people looking to downsize,” says listing agent Marcia Kies of The Hasson Company’s Lake Oswego branch. “The neighborhood offers everything from parks and pubs to theaters and public transit. From a superb vantage point, the new owners of these condos will enjoy the excitement of the city and can easily escape into the comfort of their newly constructed, sustainable home.”

The three units available at SUM-Thing New Condominiums feature two and three bedroom floor plans with two-and-a-half bathrooms. Green features include Energy Star appliances, energy-efficient lighting and furnace, dual flush toilets, storm water retention and low-maintenance landscaping. With bamboo flooring throughout and recycled quartz stone countertops, these condominiums are both durable and responsibly built.

It is the goal of the designers and developers of this new community to fuse livable, contemporary design and high-quality finishes with a green environment.

“The work we do is fun, explorative and ever-changing,” says Matt Loosemore, designer and co-owner of Sum Design Studio. “We have been able to really broaden our scope of work offering functional space and sustainable living.”

Along with business partner Eric Hoffman and project partner Demian Heald, Loosemore is pleased with the positive reactions from neighbors of the community. The modern aesthetic quality of the building, using materials that are vernacular to the Pacific Northwest, coupled with rear garages for off-street parking enhances the neighborhood and gives it a clean, updated look.
