This connection is sealed like the wall intersection. Seal the partition-wall gypsum board to the top plate of the partition wall with either a continuous bead of adhesive or a compressible gasket. This effectively seals off the interior wall cavities from the attic or roof above. (Sealants must also be applied to plumbing and wiring penetrations through the top and bottom plates.)
