Agriboard Insulated Straw Panels
The Agriboard building system uses stress-skin panels made of their proprietary compressed agricultural fiberboard bonded to OSB skins. Like other panel systems, Agriboard will reduce labor costs, speed construction and reduce the use of dimensional lumber. The core material is manufactured from the wheat or rice straw using a patented process. The panels are made without chemical binders or additives, relying instead on heat, pressure and the inherent properties of the straw. The company claims the overall insulating value -- including straw board core, OSB skin and drywall -- is R-25 for the 7-7/8 inch panels and R-13 for the 4-3/8 inch panels. According to Agriboard, the panels offer exceptional fire resistance, insect control, mold resistance and sound control. Panels can be used for walls, roofs, ceilings and floors. Agriboard now ships nationwide and into Canada.
