Builders in the Northeast now have a second choice for foamed-in-place, semi-rigid polyurethane insulation. Sealection 500 was introduced as a direct competitor to Icynene's spray-foam system. It's a semi-rigid, cellular plastic that contains no CFC's, formaldehyde or glass fibers. It has an R-value of 3.6 in. and serves as an air barrier as well as insulation. The low-density, field-applied polyurethane foam is sprayed as a liquid into open stud cavities and expands 100 times to fill holes and gaps that lead to drafts.
